Thanks for your interest in pursuing your Amateur Radio Basic License Certificate.

The North Okanagan Radio Amateur Club (NORAC) is very excited to be offering a two month course starting at the beginning of October.

The price of the course is only $100 and includes your instruction handbook, all course material, your license exam, and one years membership in our club

Confirmation

We are asking that all interested parties please confirm their attendance as soon as possible. Our next step will be to order the Books and we would like to order (as close as possible) the exact amount needed to reduce waste.

Payment for the course is due by October 5th (the first class) and can be made upon arrival. Or if it's more convenient for you, you can play online using our club website via PayPal. http://norac.bc.ca/hosted/membership/joinnorac.html

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the DONATE button, enter the $100 amount and complete the PayPal login or Guest Credit Card information (no PayPal account is required). Along the way keep your eyes open for a chance to "Add Note to Seller" or "Add Special Instruction to Seller". In this field you can indicate that your payment is for the Fall Ham Course. If we see any $100 donations without this information we'll contact the individual and confirm whether it's a donation, or a payment for the Course.

Basic License Course Schedule

Homework

Yes, there will be some homework. Students will be expected to read chapters before they are covered in class, instructors will tell you which ones to review before the next class. There is also excellent software available for taking sample tests using the real questions that will be asked in the exam. We encourage people to install this software at home and take as many practice tests as possible throughout the course to see how you're doing.

Every Saturday NORAC members enjoy a weekly breakfast at the 27th Street Grill in the Village Green Hotel starting at 10am. Anyone with questions is welcome to bring their handbook, a pen and paper and 'pick the brains' of NORAC members about whatever subject you wish. There should always be someone there to help you if needed.

About Certification

To earn your certificate with Basic Qualification, you'll need to pass a written exam. This is a 70% pass-grade, 100-question multiple-choice test, covering such topics as radio operating practices, basic electrical theory, and the Radiocommunication regulations that apply to amateur radio. A mark of 80% or more gives the candidate the additional privileges of Basic Qualification with Honours. We strongly encourage everyone to try and surpass the 80% grade so you can benefit from the extra privileges offered to Basic with Honours certificate holders. Our club goal for holding courses is to generate more Amateur Radio Operators in our region, it's always in our best interest to assist every student as much as possible in passing the exam.

Holding a valid Certificate in Amateur Radio in Canada is a lifetime privilege with no ongoing renewal fees or membership requirements. You'll find that active individuals in the hobby may choose to maintain memberships with the national club (The Radio Amateurs of Canada), or local clubs like NORAC, but this is an individual choice.
